Built in the late '60s and early '70s and former host of the Houston Open in 1973 & 1974, the La Quinta golf course at Quail Valley is a classic, tree-lined golf course. Designed to make the most of the warm, and occasionally rainy climate, this public golf course features elevated greens for a target-style golf experience. With generous fairways, targeting the right position off the tee is at a premium because hitting these greens requires smart play.

COURSE TOUR

Hole 1 Par 5

alt

A par five that measures 500 yards from the tee to the green demands your tee shot to be up the left hand side. After you do that, some of the longer players can get here in two, but more importantly, lay up to a perfect yardage of about 100 yards to the green that is heavily surrounded by bunkers. Hit a couple of good shots here and a birdie is a possibility.

Hole 2 Par 4

alt

A demanding par four that measures 437 yards with out of bounds both to the right and left, a tee shot up the right side is very important. Try to avoid the bunkers on the left hand side of the green. Par is a good score here.

Hole 3 Par 4

alt

An extreme dog leg left par four that measures just 408 yards. Most of the players will be laying up off the tee leaving themselves with a second shot back over the water. If you miss over a green to the right, it goes deep into a collection area. Par is a tough score here.

Hole 4 Par 4

alt

The shortest of the par fours on the front nine, players will be laying up once again leaving a second shot of maybe a wedge or nine-iron over water. This is one of the holes that you can birdie on quite easily.

Hole 6 Par 4

This is one of the most challenging par fours on the La Quinta Golf Course with water on the right hand side and a sharp dog leg from left to right. You must play it down the left hand side off the tee leaving yourself with a long second shot in to the green.

Hole 7 Par 5

alt

The longest par fives on this golf course measures 563 yards and has a fairway that slopes left to right. This is a three shot hole, not too many players can get here in two. The treacherous shot is the layup, try to leave yourself with a short iron in for your third.

Hole 9 Par 4

alt

The ninth hole is a 414 yard, very narrow driving par four hole with bunkers down the left and right. You must find the fairway here because your second shot comes up and over water to a green that really has a lot of movement. It's key to get the ball in a fairway here.

Hole 11 Par 5

alt

The eleventh hole, an interesting par five, is a short dog leg right to left. It depends on how much a player wants to bite off on this tee shot, maybe leaving themselves with a second shot that can get to the green. You might see some eagles here.

On this 470 yard par four, you must drive it down the left hand side of the fairway. The second shot requires a shot over a hazard, but it gives you enough room to try to run the ball up the left hand side of this green. You must avoid the bunker on the right hand side. Four is a great score here.

alt

Our home hole here at the La Quinta Golf Course is a par four on the eighteenth hole that measures 403 yards. With water down the right hand side, players must lay up to the hazard that comes across to the center of the fairway. This will leave you 100-145 yards left for your second shot to a green that is heavily bunkered to the front and left.
